Coastwatch Tay to resume coastal safety watch.
It has been noted that with the arrival of better weather conditions, their has been a significant increase in the numbers of people who are failing to follow the UK Government’s ‘Stay Home, Protect the NHS, Save Lives’ guidance and are travelling to walk the coast, visit the Broughty Ferry beaches and taking pleasure craft afloat on the Tay.
Our colleagues at RNLI Broughty Ferry have recently been tasked to incidents where people have been cut of by the tide at Stannergate and a jet ski breakdown off Broughty Ferry harbour.
The Coastwatch Tay management committee have therefore decided to resume limited watch duties and coastal safety bycycle patrols in an effort to safeguard lives.
Our base will remain closed to visitors and staffing of our observation post and coastal safety bycycle patrols will be limited to 2 watchkeepers per shift.
Personal protective equipment, gloves, face masks will be provided to our volunteers.
If you observe anyone in trouble along the coast or out at sea, call 999 and ask for the COASTGUARD.
